Aging isn't for wimps

Let's face it, everyday we are all getting older. However, older doesn't have to mean old!

I've been teaching for over 16 years and seen so many different people from different age groups show up on the mat. What I notice the most is the quality of life of the student that continues to show up.

I've asked students their age and often been shocked by how much older they actually where. I've also been equally shocked when I ask someone else the same question and their response is 10 years younger than they look. They are also living a full life, enjoying lots of food, drink and not much movement. No judgement, just an observation.

I've even had students start yoga as young as 86 years old. She loved it because it allowed her find low impact movement that gave her more mobility. She passed away at 97 and I can still remember that she showed up every Tuesday and Thursday ready to try something new. Maybe that was her secret always keep your mind and body active.

As we age our proprioception, balance and confidence in our bodies changes. I believe that finding safe challenges for balance, laughter, gathering with friends and lots of brain exercises keeps aging at bay.
